Boy­anup sa­le­yards took in 942 cat­tle of­fered by liveweight and 728 head of­fered by ap­praisal on Tues­day, in a yard­ing that was 500 head up on the pre­vi­ous sale.

The pen­ning over­all was of very good qual­ity. The liveweight sec­tion slightly eased on beef breds, with the ex­cep­tion of weaner heifers that were up by 5¢/kg, as were Friesians feeder steers.

The beef-bred weaner steers sold for 250¢ to 328¢/kg, to av­er­age 306¢/ kg, to be 9¢/kg eas­ier.

The beef-bred weaner heifers sold for 180¢ to 294¢/kg, to av­er­age 264¢/kg, up 5¢/kg. This set a bench­mark for the start of the weaner sales pro­gramme that com­mences next week and ex­tends to Feb­ru­ary 2019.

The beef-bred year­ling steers sold from 202¢ to 312¢/kg to av­er­age 268¢/kg, down 10¢/kg, with the beef-bred year­ling heifers sell­ing for 125¢ to 285¢/kg, to av­er­age 229¢/ kg, down 50¢/kg.

Friesian feeder steers sold for 150¢ to 226¢/kg, to av­er­age 211¢/kg, up 5¢/kg. The sec­ond part of the sale in­cluded 300 Friesian light­weight steers in score 2 con­di­tion.
