Boyanup sale report
With a combined yarding of 1400 cattle, the third annual weaner sale comprised 831 beef bred steers selling from 280¢ to 344¢ to average 315¢ firm.
Steers from 200 to 280kg averaged 336¢/kg, while those weighing 280 to 330kg averaged 320¢ and heavier types at 330kg plus averaged 306¢/kg.
The 568 beef bred weaner heifers sold from 240¢ to 348¢ to average 280¢, up 10¢, as the 200 to 280kg heifers averaged 268¢/kg.
The 280 to 330kg weight class averaged 259¢, while the heavier 330kg plus categories averaged 315¢, with the latter Euro types well supported by live export.
The most dominate breed was Angus cattle and good lines of Murray Grey, Charolais and Simmentals.
Although some buyers were missing, preferring the weaned option, they were replaced by fresh faces keen to secure the outstanding quality types.
In question was whether premium prices would be paid for weaned cattle as they have been for unweaned.
