Mt Barker sale report
Numbers were up for a total yarding of 1769 good quality calves for the first sale of the year at Mt Barker last Thursday, January 3.
All categories lifted, and there was a large gallery of buyers in attendance.
Light weight steer calves topped the market at 322¢/kg.
The extra heavy over 380kg steer calves gained 17¢, selling from 228¢ to 290¢ to average 278¢, while heifers made from 248¢ to 262¢/kg.
Steer calves weighing 330-380kg sold from 276¢ to 310¢ to finish up 5¢, while heifers made from 240¢ to 290¢ to average 270¢/kg.
The 280-330kg category saw steers sold from 270¢ to 320¢, while heifers made from 240¢ up to 310¢/ kg for a pen of well bred Angus heifers.
Light weights under 280kg sold from 264¢ to 322¢, averaging 292¢ for steers, and from 21¢ to 280¢/kg for heifers.
Bull calves under 450kg sold to feeder buyers from 226¢ to 298¢ to average 266¢, while bulls weighing more than 400kg made 200¢/kg.
