Mt Barker sale re­port

Num­bers were up for a to­tal yard­ing of 1769 good qual­ity calves for the first sale of the year at Mt Barker last Thurs­day, Jan­uary 3.

All cat­e­gories lifted, and there was a large gallery of buy­ers in at­ten­dance.

Light weight steer calves topped the mar­ket at 322¢/kg.

The ex­tra heavy over 380kg steer calves gained 17¢, sell­ing from 228¢ to 290¢ to av­er­age 278¢, while heifers made from 248¢ to 262¢/kg.

Steer calves weigh­ing 330-380kg sold from 276¢ to 310¢ to fin­ish up 5¢, while heifers made from 240¢ to 290¢ to av­er­age 270¢/kg.

The 280-330kg cat­e­gory saw steers sold from 270¢ to 320¢, while heifers made from 240¢ up to 310¢/ kg for a pen of well bred An­gus heifers.

Light weights un­der 280kg sold from 264¢ to 322¢, av­er­ag­ing 292¢ for steers, and from 21¢ to 280¢/kg for heifers.

Bull calves un­der 450kg sold to feeder buy­ers from 226¢ to 298¢ to av­er­age 266¢, while bulls weigh­ing more than 400kg made 200¢/kg.
