We asked our fans on Facebook “What’s been your biggest ever stitching disaster?”…

HELEN LOVELL I did a birth sampler for a friend due to give birth mid-February. I knew what they were going to call him, so put the name/February/year and left space for the actual date and weight. She eventually gave birth on the 1st of March! Had to unpick, clean up the little fibres left and realign! At least they didn’t decide on a different name, I suppose!

KIRSTY NASH When I started stitching at primary school we were in the staff room with the teacher stitching away, I was so impressed by the end of the lesson, that was until I realised I had stitched my piece to the tablecloth and my skirt!

NATALIE TRENNER Biggest disaster was on holiday, I got to my hotel in Lanzarote to discover that my brand new bottle of mouthwash had leaked in my suitcase all over my clothes and stitching. It completely ruined the chart but luckily the baby blanket I was making survived.

HANNAH JOHNSON I got three-quarters of the way through a baby sampler when I realised I’d stitched it portrait-style instead of landscape and was going to run out of fabric. There was no way I was going to give up though, so I cut out ten squares of the design to squeeze it on the aida. It looked fine and no one ever noticed!

KATIE OHARA My beagle decided to 'help' me with my stitching. It was a piece for a national competition. I went to get something to drink. When I returned he'd taken the piece and completely demolished it. It wouldn’t have been so bad but I was coming close to finishing it. No we didn’t have beagle burgers for dinner that night!
