What stitching trends do you see coming up for this Summer 2021?

After such a strange year it will be interesting to see what sort of designs people will be looking to stitch this summer. With the possibility of ‘staycations’ I am thinking that feel-good retro designs will be popular like our ‘Love The Lakes’ design by Jessica Hogarth. Our Summer Release has 32 new designs, including five tapestries. There are several fabulous Wrendale designs including ‘Let It Bee’ which is full of busy summer buzzing!
What’s your top tip for stitching outside in the sun?
I know some people successfully stitch outside and it looks idyllic, but I find it tricky. The minute I get se led the sun moves, a gust of wind carries off my stitch diagram… or I’ve forgo en my scissors. If you are going to try it, I would say it is important to plan for every eventuality including umbrellas
for rain, wind and sun before you get too comfortable in that deckchair!
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
I am really looking forward to ge ing out on my bike more this summer. I’m booked to cycle the length of the coast of Ireland and am hoping that it will be going ahead in July… and then in September I am hoping to do LEJOG (Lands End to John O’Groats’)! From my summer stitching I am hoping to develop some new Bothy designs with a wider variety of stitches and textures. Amanda Loverseed and I have been working on four seasonal designs introducing stitching through organza and
I want to develop this further.
Which is your favourite summery Bothy Threads design in 2021?
It is so hard to choose my favourite Bothy design for summer! This is one of the four seasonal designs that I mentioned – Summer Time. The organza is cut to shape and tacked in place. It’s very light and thin so you can just stitch away normally. It gives a lovely ‘watercolour’ background.
