Cross Stitcher

What stitching trends do you see coming up in Summer 2021?

- ANNIE BARKER Haberdashery owner thevillagehaberdashery.co.uk

Embroidered and cross-stitched botanicals always stop our scroll! At this point it’s hard to call them a trend because plants aren’t new, but they are still so popular! Stitch Happy’s Green Wall embroidery kit is a beautiful example.

Over lockdown what have been your most popular products?

During the peak of the first lockdown we saw enormous spikes in sales of embroidery threads, all types of craft kits and quilting co ons for masks. Many of our customers were looking for ways to stay sane through crafting. With Me Made May and the Great British Sewing Bee kicking off, we expect dressmaking will be our most popular craft in the coming months!

What’s your favourite summery fabric or stitching kit?

We have a new floral cross stitch kit from Co on Clara’s Hoop Club collection that we adore! It’s a collaboration with Zoe Frost called Amethyst Floral. As for summer fabric, we love linen, co on with embroidered details and classic gingham!

Which stitching project would you want to take on holiday?

We adore The Make Arcade’s cross stitch kits for when you’re on the go and don’t want to bring a lot of equipment! It’s a great time to choose one with a motivating, inspirational message too, like the Being Kind is Cool kit!

What are you looking forward to most about holding stitching and sewing classes again this summer?

We absolutely love hosting classes and events and we can’t wait until it’s safe again. We’ll resume classes in May for our most popular dressmaking, embroidery and craft classes and hopefully expand our offering as normal life resumes!
