Make a… house sachet
Step 1 STITCH
a house front on aida, using two strands of stranded cotton for the cross stitch and one for the backstitch.
Step 2 COMPLETE
the stitching, then make a template from the diagram provided. Using the house section only, place the template centrally onto the back of the aida. Holding it up to a window, mark the outlines on the fabric, adding on 1.25cm ( ⁄ in) on all sides for turnings.
Step 3 USING
the complete template, cut a house and roof, and a roof only from cotton fabric adding 1.25cm( ⁄ in) to all edges. Using the house and roof template, cut two shapes from wadding. Trim them down so that they are slightly smaller than the finished house and cut o 7cm (2 ⁄ in) of the top point on both wadding shapes.
Step 4 PLACE
the aida house front and the fabric roof right-sides together, matching the top seams. Stitch across the seam. Fold the roof up, open out the seam allowance and press flat. Place the assembled house front and the cotton fabric back right-sides sides together. Stitch around the outer edge with the 1.25cm ( ⁄ in) seam allowance, but leaving the bottom edge open. Reduce the seam allowance, turn to the right side, and press.
Step 5 PLACE
dried rose petals or lavender between the wadding layers, and then slip them inside the house, so that the point at the top of the house is empty.
Step 6 SEW
up the seam at the bottom. Fold over the point at the top of the roof, adding a couple of Velcro dots to hold the point down, and a button on the front for decoration.
