A NEW voyage with Heritage Expeditions is now available, retracing the first Northern Sea Route transit.

In the Footsteps of Nordenskiold is inspired by the namesake explorer’s famed Vega Expedition, which took place from 1878 to 1880.

The 19-day itinerary is the latest addition to Heritage’s 2021 Russian Far East season, and was created in consultation with the cruise line’s Russian history experts.

The expedition offers travellers the opportunity to explore some of the least known and seldom-visited shores in the region including Severnaya Zemlya (pictured), the New Siberian Islands, Novaya Zemlya, Cape Chelyuskin, De Long Islands and the Nordenskiold Archipelago.

Departing Murmansk aboard Akademik Shokalskiy on 12 Sep 2021 and arriving in Pevek on 30 Sep, prices start from US$13,900 for a main deck twin share berth.

The new voyage follows minor amendments to Heritage’s Russian Far East schedule, which will now sees the Sea of Okhotsk expedition starting and ending in Magadan, allowing guests to enjoy an extended period of time exploring the region, as well as the opportunity to stay on board as Akademik Shokalskiy is relocated from Magadan to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

“This is an authentic expedition in every sense,” said Heritage Expeditions Commercial Director & Expedition Leader Aaron Russ.

“In the Footsteps of Nordenskiold recreates one of the world’s great explorations visiting the many islands and locations Nordenskiold himself discovered and described during his historychanging expedition.”
