FEW peo­ple are crazy enough to take a dip in the ocean with their jeans on, but it still turns out your denim pants may be pol­lut­ing the seas.

A re­cent study pub­lished by the Univer­sity of Toronto in the jour­nal En­vi­ron­men­tal Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy Let­ters has flagged the high pres­ence of denim fi­bres in the At­lantic Ocean.

Cana­dian re­searchers found denim mi­crofi­bres ac­counted for 87 to 90% of ob­served par­ti­cles in deep Arc­tic wa­ters, as well as in the Great Lakes.
