Making A Stand

Flooring and sports surface producer Tarkett used its stand at this year’s Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair to demonstrate ideas about circular design and create a forum for discussion. Exhibition stands are notorious for wastage. Tarkett worked with Note

Design Studio to demonstrate an alternative, by strapping together temporary objects (archetypal shapes inspired by the ancient agoras) that were either recycled or would be recycled and put into a never-ending circular loop. The stand was given the title Natural Bond – a metaphor for how we should seek to design now and in the future. The strapping was used as a symbol to illustrate the notion that our future is under construction and the present is temporary. After the show, much of the material was returned to Tarkett’s facilities in southern Sweden where it was to be ground down, bonded again and turned into flooring of exactly the same quality.
