We test eight jerseys and eight pairs of bib shorts to keep you pedalling comfortably this summer

There’s no more exciting time to ride than when the skies are blue and the sun is shining. Wearing the right kit makes a big difference, and with technology, quality and value never better there’s no excuse for not squeezing out every last mile.

A pair of well-fitting bib shorts will make a huge difference to your experience, regardless of the type of riding you do. Take your rear seriously because it’s one of the most important contact points on the bike. A little research will reap dividends when it comes to making the right choice.

Shorts are available for all types of riding with some offering a more forgiving ride while others favour those who race. Many higher end models often have a fitted cut, which will work for all, but most of us mere mortals may need to size up.

Try not to skimp, but price isn’t always the ultimate factor when it comes to the best shorts. Thanks to manufacturing and design details filtering down, cheaper shorts can offer a good ride too.

Similarly, the design and quality of fabrics used for jerseys has never been better. There’s no such thing as a simple cycling jersey anymore. Like shorts, there’s a wide range aimed at all types of riding whether it’s road racing, gravel, sportives or simply commuting.

Some are more forgiving while others, especially high-end models, are aimed at wind-cheating racers who care about aerodynamics. Once again, these will work for all, but consider sizing up for greater comfort. Many brands now also offer specific warm weather jerseys too.

Before you pick your kit, do some research to work out what will perform best for you, your riding style and body type. Read on for our range of eight shorts and eight jerseys to help you have a comfortable summer in the saddle.
