VITTORIA VH-IKON MIPS

219 › Aero-styled helmet with added protection

-

WITH A ROUNDED, MINIMAL SHAPE the VH-Ikon is one of the most distinctive of the current crop of aero-optimised road lids. The construction is excellent, with the shell’s blend of soft-touch matt and highgloss finish adding to the overall quality feel. The shell extends over every surface, so there’s no exposed or easily damaged foam core on show either.

The five forward-facing vents do a decent job of channelling air, and while the internal channels are more minimal than most, the Ikon didn’t get overly warm and sweaty, even on hard, intense rides. The large vent on the crown only comes into play when your head’s down, such as when you’re in the drops, and the rear’s large, square ports help regulate the temperature.

The extra safety of the MIPS cradle is always welcome and we like that Vittoria has had their unit designed specifically for this helmet so it’s neatly cut away so as not to impede the internal channelling. The padding is substantial and deeply plush making for a seriously comfortable fit. The shape is quite rounded, and the Ikon is only available in two sizes, small/medium and large, but there is enough adjustment to get the fit right, even if the rear cradle offers minimal vertical adjustment. The quick-adjust dial does offer microadjustments across the generous width range.

Vittoria is pretty new to the helmet game, and the Ikon isn’t the easiest to find aside from online, but with quality this good we think that’s set to change.
