CRUISERS DESIGNED FOR ENDURANCE RIDING
Numerically, the FACT 9r carbon may sound lowly, but it’s e cient at transmitting rider inputs
With more float than a reclining otter, Scott’s £1899 Addict 30 Disc adds another facet to the Addict model’s almost allencompassing ability, there are fast road, cyclo-cross and gravel versions, with designers putting endurance to the fore here. The lowest priced of the three Addict Disc models, this bike shares the same MF carbon frame and full carbon fork, but economises on componentry compared to its costlier stablemates.
Similar cost compromises can be seen here in the £1900 entry into Roubaix ownership, being built from FACT 9r carbon, higher-spec bikes get FACT 10r or 11r for the Roubaix Pro and above. Numerically, the FACT 9r carbon used for the frame may sound lowly compared to the S-Works model, but it’s stiff, and efficient at transmitting rider inputs.
Both the Scott and Specialized run 10-speed Shimano Tiagra gearing, which looks classy and the levers feel just like higher-level 105, but its inclusion helps with the cost saving. In both instances, the low gears were welcome when it came to tackling climbs. Both brands have also delved into their own parts departments to provide contact point kit, Scott using its component branch, Syncros.
