Stages opened up a whole new world of affordable, efficient on-bike power measurement equipment with its straingauge-equipped left crank arms. As long as there’s a match to your right crank arm in the extensive Stages Menu and the sensor on the back clears your bike (some aero chainstay brakes can cause issues) fitting couldn’t be easier, and it measures cadence without a frame magnet. The latest G3 cranks promise improvements to the already excellent communication and reliable measuring accuracy as well as better seals for weather protection. Overall power is calculated by doubling the power sampled by the left crank, so it’s only as accurate as your legs are balanced, which can change depending on intensity/ fatigue. A doublesided chainset option (£949+) is available now.
