The Surge Pro takes a different approach to sole design. It’s not just that the forefoot plate is wider than that of a standard shoe, it’s also the fact that it connects to the heel plate via a very slim ‘ExoBeam’. Giant claims that this design delivers a sole with class-leading stiffness, especially in the forefoot, where the most pressure is applied. The ExoBeam isn’t only there for stiffness, however. The sole’s extreme narrowness through the midfoot and the way it attaches to the upper allow it to provide the flex and lateral rotation necessary for your foot to follow its natural movement through the pedal stroke.
