Riding new roads

Planning new, exciting routes just got a whole lot easier thanks to komoot – the new navigation app taking the world by storm

-

At one time or another, even the most singleminded, performancedriven rider among us has grappled with itchy pedals. You’ve seen the same lanes and streets a thousand times before, and now you’re aching to hit some new roads. This need for adventure and exploration makes a robust planning tool absolutely essential. Komoot combines all of the elements of the typical route planning project into one handy planner available as an app on Android and iOS or your computer desktop. That means goodbye to scouring forums for tidbits of info from other riders, downloading some GPX files and consulting maps and books. Planning a route with komoot feels so personalised yet so simple. All you have to do is select a start and end point, choose your fitness level and input your bike type and komoot will plot your route for you. Even then, if there’s a climb or stopoff along the way that takes your fancy, you can tell komoot to incorporate it. It’ll also display topographical information, elevation and predicted time to complete, other riders’ recommendations, and a robust algorithm that prioritises the type of roads and trails you prefer to ride on. And all this can be integrated with Garmin and Wahoo devices. What’s more, komoot allows you to unlock one region of your choice for free when you sign up. With this, you can save routes offline and benefit from turn-by-turn voice navigation even when you have no internet connection, allowing you to safely explore more on your bike – secure in the knowledge you won’t get lost. Additional regions can be unlocked for a small one-time fee. Thanks to komoot, there’s nothing stopping you discovering a whole new world of cycling opportunities, so get planning and get riding.
