The day I got the email from CyclingPlus it was a wet and miserable morning, but that was all about to change. All I needed to do was confirm I could make the dates and I was going to be a part of Team Alpecin 2019. Nothing could’ve prepared me for such an amazing year.
It’s certainly been a whirlwind. This past season has been the best cycling year of my life. It’s everything I could have wished for, and more. I have cycled in Team
Alpecin colours in England, France, Italy and Germany, ticking off amazing bucket list events, like the Fred Whitton Challenge and L’Etape du Tour.
I have cycled with pro cyclists, a former UCI World Champion, a holder of the Hour Record and met heroes along the way, teammates have become friends for life and all while having awesome photographers capture these priceless memories.
My training has been completely restructured – a week-long training camp at the start of the year, a coach, indoor trainer, power meter all helped contribute to an increase of 40 watts in just a few months, as well as giving me pro tips to make me a more competent cyclist.
Alpecin provided us with some of the finest kit and equipment on the market. No expense was spared, kitting us out from head to toe with team kit. Throw in organisational support and mechanical help from some of the nicest people you will ever meet and you have all the ingredients for the best season of your life.
It’s a cliche, but ‘you’ve got to be in it to win it’ and I strongly urge you to apply.
