LEAFY GREENS

-

There is some evidence that magnesium, an essential mineral, reduces anxiety and can be effective in treating mild-to-moderate depression in adults. Additional research has shown that, in mice, low-magnesium diets were found to increase anxiety-related behaviours. Foods naturally rich in magnesium may, therefore, help to promote a sense of calm.

Rick Hay recommends leafy greens, such as spinach and kale, as a rich source of magnesium to include in your diet, particularly during tough times.

Try adding a couple of handfuls of kale to your morning smoothie, or toss a bag of spinach into your curry, or sautée some chard in olive with a little garlic.
