THERAGUN PRO G4

£549 Pro-level massage at home

-

Theragun was founded in Los Angeles in 2008 by chiropractor Dr Jason Wersland with the goal of creating a percussive therapy device that could o er truly beneficial recovery and consistent massage therapies. This Generation 4 device claims to be more tuneable, powerful and quieter than ever, and is used throughout professional sport by more than 250 organisations and athletes, including Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo and England wicket keeper Jonny Bairstow.

WHAT IT DOES

Percussive therapy/massage has been shown to aid growth and repair of tissues by heavily increasing blood flow. It achieves this with rapid, short-duration pulses in concentrated areas that get deep into the body tissue. Claimed benefits include pain relief, increased range of movement and aiding lactic acid clearance. Plus, with less soreness, knots, and pain in your muscles you’ll also sleep better and recover quicker.

HOW IT DOES IT

The Theragun has a high-speed brushless motor. The gun comes with six di erentshaped density heads, which can be used to target specific areas of your body. Earlier models faced criticism for their noise levels as they were a bit ‘power drill’. The Quietforce brushless motor developed for this Gen 4 model generates no more noise than an electric toothbrush.

HOW TO DO IT

The Theragun connects via Bluetooth to a companion app (Therabody) for your phone or tablet (iOS and Android) and is

Siri-enabled. With treatment protocols on the app where you can target specific areas of your body, it’ll talk you through how to properly apply the unit and give video/photo demonstrations of how to apply and how long to perform the therapy. The Therabody app also connects with your phone’s health app and Strava, and will send you notifications to remind you to get a massage on tired legs and limbs after big rides or training blocks.

WHAT SO YOU GET?

The G4 comes complete with two batteries (300 minutes’ run time), a charging dock, six di erent heads (dampener, standard ball, wedge, thumb, cone and supersoft), and a hardcase to store it in. While the Pro is the flagship unit of the range, Theragun also o ers an Elite version at £375, Prime at £275 and the Mini at £175.
