MADISON PELOTON
£89.99 A do-it-all waterproof with a more casual cut
SIZES S – XXL COLOURS Black, lime, chilli red WEIGHT 235g WATERPROOFING 10,000mm BREATHABILITY 10,000g/m
The Peloton is a midweight 2.5-layer jacket with a waterproof rating of 10,000mm and taped seams all around. This means it did a decent job of keeping the rain out, even on longer rides, but I found it did become a little sweaty when working hard. A mesh vent across the shoulder blades goes a little way to compensate for the lack of breathability.
Fit is true to size, with a typical high-cut front and longer rear, but Madison has designed it with a casual cut to allow for layering, which makes the Peloton more versatile for different body shapes and year-round use. Slimmer riders might find it a little too baggy, depending on their tastes. I did find there was some flap but it’s not overly noisy, although it did bunch up at times, which could cause potential water pooling. Coverage is adequate and the elastic hem keeps the jacket in place.
Arm length is bang on – the sleeves are articulated and have extended cuffs. Just the underneath half of the cuffs is elasticated, which allows thin gloves to sit beneath or bulkier winter gloves to fit over them. The collar is tall and snug, and keeps the elements out, while the inclusion of a zip garage means there are no irritation issues. Features are kept to a minimum, which keeps the cost down and makes it easier to pack – it will fit into a jersey pocket if rolled up tightly – but I did miss a pocket for essentials. The reversestyle front zip with inner flap keeps water out, while a small plastic sleeve on the zip-tag makes life easier for on-thefly adjustments. The fabric feels hard wearing, which bodes well for durability. This all makes it a solid performer. Throw in its price of under £90 and you have a good-value all-rounder.
