The three-layer fabric, taped seams and a waterproof zip do a superb job

When the weather is howling, one jacket that’ll have no problem coping with the worst of the wind and rain is the Equipe RS. It’s also lightweight and stacked with clever features.
The cut, which favours the classic sinewy cyclist, feels good in the cycling position with ample length in the arms and body. The panel design and stretch in the fabric provides a good fit. Arguably, the drop-tail rear could be longer but it stops most road spray. A siliconelined hem holds it in place. Meanwhile sealing around the collar and a zip garage works equally well. The cuffs use neoprene inserts to seal the wrists, which slides beneath gloves.
This three-layer fabric features a hydrophilic membrane and a durable water-repellent treatment. When combined with taped seams and a waterproof front zip, it does a superb job of keeping you dry.
Equally impressive is the breathability of the Equipe RS. Assos says it has a rating of 27,100g/m2/24h and I had no complaints, even when pushing myself to the limit on damp days. The front zip can be adjusted both top and bottom, and the large zip-pull tags are easy to use.
Rather than pockets, Assos offers two rear flaps that allow you to access your jersey inside. It’s a simple idea that works well without any water penetration. These double as vents when working hard.
The Equipe feels substantial in terms of weight and it’s truly impressive in wet conditions. It’s not the smallest packing waterproof but it easily fits in a jersey pocket. This rain jacket is up there with the best when it comes to all-weather protection but quality this good doesn’t come cheap.
