WHY YOU WANT

Hi-vis add-on for commuters

Lights offer visibility from the front and rear but less so from the side. That’s where LittyKitty’s wheel LEDs come in...

Being seen is an absolute priority when you’re riding at night or in low light conditions. Regular bike lights provide visibility from ahead and behind, but they’re much less helpful for being seen from the side at junctions, crossroads and roundabouts. Which is where British brand LittyKitty comes in with its products.

LittyKitty’s 360-degree Bicycle Spoke Lights consist of units for front and rear wheels, each comprising a soft plastic tube containing 20 super-bright LEDs. Fitting is simple. You just thread the tubes between the spokes inside the rim and mount the control box securely to the spokes using the included zip ties, which does take a little care. Three standard AA batteries provide more than 48 hours of illumination on constant, and significantly longer in flash mode.

The units are fully sealed from the elements and, weighing just 101g each plus 78g for batteries, they won’t add significant weight to your commuter ride. The spinning lights’ 360-degree visibility means you’ll be seen from any angle, and if a lot of your riding is on tra c-filled city streets at night, these look like a really good hi-vis solution.

In addition to LittyKitty’s ‘Complete Safety’ option – white for the front wheel, red for the rear – there are other combos including Ultra Instinct, white front light and blue rear light, and Ninja Turtle, which is green and red. Or you can choose the same colour for both wheels, with lights also available in pink.
