SIX THINGS TO LOOK FOR…

-

01 PADS

Inner chamois pads feature differing thicknesses and densities of padding. They’re designed to provide comfort around your sit bones and should be snug to avoid irritation. Most brands provide female-specific pads, and offer different widths.

02 SUPPORT

The bibs, often using a mesh construction for breathability, help hold everything in place. Good shorts will provide muscle support without restriction, while some use compressive materials on the legs that are designed to aid recovery.

03 MATERIAL& FIT

Shorts are constructed from breathable Lycra panels, which are stitched together with flatlock seams for maximum comfort, while offering support and freedom of movement. Winter-specific bibs, are naturally, thicker and provide more windproofing.

04 LEG GRIPPERS

A classic case of Goldilocks design: not too tight, not too loose. Too constrictive and as well as giving you unsightly sausage legs, they’ll restrict blood flow. Too loose and the shorts will move around and possibly cause discomfort.

05 LEG LENGTH

If you’re particularly short in stature, or long of limb, then it’s worth ensuring that you’re happy with the leg length of the shorts to prevent either the hot pants or Bermuda shorts looks making an appearance.

06 PANELS

Multiple panels allow a tailored fit without relying on the material’s inherent stretch to keep everything in place. Check where seams are, and beware ones that restrict movement, especially when on the drops.
