Aero shoe covers have long been celebrated as one of the most cost-effective aero cheats. Available from £10 online, they’ve been shown to shave time by covering ratchets, Boa dials or beefy Velcro straps on bike shoes. Our Santini Wall Shoe Cover (£60) showed a 13sec time saving over 40km that, unlike a helmet or hand positioning, should be a consistent aero gain no matter your riding position. There are also wind- and waterproofing benefits, although they’re not ideal for anyone taking on duathlon or triathlon events due to the time they take to put on in the transition areas.
