Prologo Akero AGX T2.0 saddle

£64.99 New perch for adventure, gravel and cyclocross

- Warren Rossiter

THE AKERO SITS in the middle of Prologo’s saddle range, between the brand’s M5 bike-racing saddles and its popular road-focused Dimension range of short saddles, adding some cushioning comfort from its off-road saddles.

At 255mm long with a 150mm-wide rear, it’s not as short as the Dimension (245mm), nor as long as the classic slender shape of the road-racing Nago (275mm). It does, however, share a similar shape to the Dimension, with a slightly stubby nose, a pronounced V shape and a generous relief channel.

The channel isn’t fully hollowed through, which means your rear stays clean when the gravel inevitably turns to mud and spray, but you still get the benefits of a cutout as the rear wings in the base are designed to flex and move with you as you pedal.

It’s a particularly good choice for gravel riders and endurance-bike fans as the more upright riding position of these bikes puts more of your weight on the saddle, so a stiff base would not be so kind to your derrière.

Alongside the generous amount of flex in the base is a very well-judged mix of padding density. It’s softer and deeper at your sit bones, slimming and firming up as the saddle briefly widens, and this firmness continues towards the nose.

It’s a saddle I really got on with when riding off-road and even on my upright commuter bike. It’s at its best when you’re sitting in a slightly forwards position, although I never found the Akero anything but a pleasant place to perch as I pedalled, whether that be on gravel roads or urban bike paths.

This Akero comes with Prologo’s T2.0 steel rail and weighs in at an impressively light 235.5g for such a modestly priced saddle. Like all Prologo saddles, it comes with a 60-day, money-back comfort guarantee, which we thoroughly approve of as saddle comfort is so personal.
