Scott Foil RC Pro
£10,499 This aero race bike is lighter, speedier and comfier than ever before
Scott launched the superspeedy updated Foil RC aero road bike just before the Tour de France and it was ridden by top-10 finisher Romain Bardet for Team DSM. Here’s why it’s better than ever.
01 Go-faster geometry
The new Foil RC features identical geometry to the Addict RC lightweight race bike, except for the Syncros Creston handlebar, which results in a 10mm shorter reach – and super-sharp handling.
02 Flexi time
Climb aboard and enjoy the flex in the new Duncan SL Aero CFT seatpost that helps smooth the ride. The weight-bearing full-length post has a cut-out section and can flex against the stabilising rear section. A rubberised filler can be swapped with an additional light. Overall, Scott reckons the new frame is 10% more comfortable than the previous model, not factoring in tyre choice (it can fit tyres up to 30mm).
03 Aero details
Scott called in aero expert Simon Smart from Drag2Zero to help develop the new frameset, resulting in a massive 10% greater efficiency in the wind tunnel than the previous generation of the Foil. That translates to a claimed 16-watt saving at 40km/h, all while keeping the frame slimline and light and using fewer carbon pieces and joints. Details such as the angle of the dropped seatstays are all carefully considered…
04 Fancy front end
The fork legs are asymmetrical, with a more curved profile on the non-driveside versus a flatter shape on the driveside, while the brake callipers are well tucked in away from the wind. A one-piece Syncros Creston iC SL cockpit featuring fully integrated brake hose routing through the head-tube has been developed specifically for the Foil RC, which Scott says brings a six-watt saving versus the previous edition of the Foil.
05 Impressive weightloss
The bike boasts a 915g frame weight in its lightest HMX SL carbon layup (on the Scott Foil RC Ultimate, size 56cm). This is with the frame painted, Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 battery holder in place and derailleur hangers fitted, and represents a 9% drop on the previous-generation Foil.
