A sporty take on commuter clothing

ITALY’S SPORTFUL IS KNOWN

for making pro-level performance cycling kit. The Metro line brings that technical know-how to clothing built for urban riding and commuting.

The hoodie is a lined softshell with a windproof front. Lightly fleeced arms are slim fitting and cut long. The twoway zip is baffled to shield the wind. Add in a base layer and a technical mid-layer and this top could work for long, cold rides. However, I couldn’t fit the peaked hood over my Large helmet and it’s quite bulky to fit under it. There are triple pockets at the rear plus two zipped front ones.

The fit is close but not restrictive and it’s UK-sizing friendly. There are vents just below the shoulder blades and the long tail’s silicone grippers keep it in place. A high collar keeps out the chills too. The top’s very wearable and I’ve basically lived in it since I started testing it.

The Metro pants are made from a midweight polyamide with a waterrepellent treatment to help keep out a light rain shower and road spray. After three washes, they’ve kept their waterbeading qualities.

The tapered fit and deep, elasticated cuffs keep them away from your chain, while the high back works well in the cycling position. The zipped thigh pocket is particularly useful.

I found the fit, length, stretch and feel nigh-on perfect and you could get away with wearing these off the bike. It’s just a shame the reflective details are on the curb side for UK riders. However, this is some of the best-performing winter commuting clothing I’ve tried. Sizes are XS to XXL and there are women’s versions too.
