GENESIS G70 ULTIMATE

A new contender arrives

-

When it comes to compact luxury sedans the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 are the incumbents and for a good reason. Sure, each brand has gone through a phase of a notso-great offering, but today each offering is stiff competition. Despite this, and also the market shift to preferring SUV’s, the Genesis G70 is set to disrupt the three with a well priced and well-engineered offering.

From each angle, you can see where the designers may have gained inspiration from other makers and not just the three we’ve already mentioned. An approach like this can lead down a dark path, but Genesis has come up with an incredibly striking and attention-demanding look. It’s the new kid at school who has no regard for the social hierarchy in place.

The Genesis G70 is available in a turbo four-cylinder 2.0T or twin-turbo V6 and several trim levels to allow you to select the type of driving experience you want. We were in the 3.3T Ultimate and instantly fell in love with the quality of the interior. The Nappa Leather in Walnut Brown with the diamond pattern looks incredible and feels great to touch too. The balance of interior materials also leaves a better impression than other competitors, which can be a little plastic.

The Genesis G70 is a car that you want to get out and drive, regardless of it being a slow commute (the active cruise control will look after you) or a trip out to a winery on the weekend following some winding roads. Power

delivery from the engine is superb and there is artificial sound being pumped into the cabin to enhance the experience, but you can switch it off if you wish. Passenger space and creature comforts are not on short supply with all of the bells and whistles included which other brands usually lump into an options package. You can also use the Genesis app to track trips, fuel economy and control essential vehicle functions. A handy feature at the most random of times.

Unfortunately, test driving a G70 isn’t the easiest thing to do right now with a single studio in Sydney, but plans for Brisbane are in the works for 2020. Right now, if we had to buy a compact luxury sedan, this would be it.
