UBER AND HYUNDAI PARTNER FOR FLYING TAX
Your pick up is now landing
Uber and Hyundai have announced a new partnership to build and operate air taxi vehicles as part of the Uber Elevate program.
Showing off a full-scale model at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the fully-electric aircraft will be capable of transporting four passengers. Initially, a pilot will be required, but Hyundai says over time the vehicle will become autonomous.
Under the partnership, Hyundai will produce and deploy the air vehicles, and Uber will provide airspace support services, connections to ground transport and customer interfaces. The model, S-A1, is reminiscent of previous designs shown off by Uber and will feature electric vertical take-off and landing capability.
Uber has announced a goal of flight demonstrations in 2020, and the Elevate service available to riders in 2023.
