Ship­wreck burns

A SHIP wrecked on Glouces­ter Is­land dur­ing Cy­clone Deb­bie caught alight on Sun­day. Mem­ber for Whit­sun­day Jason Costi­gan posted a pic­ture of the Tateyama Maru on his Face­book page with smoke bil­low­ing from the fore­deck and cabin.

Mr Costi­gan said the Queens­land Govern­ment failed to act be­fore en­vi­ron­men­tal harm was caused to the area. "I've been lead­ing the cru­sade to re­move the rust bucket from the third big­gest is­land in the re­gion which has been home to much loved na­tional park for 80 years," he said. A spokesper­son for QFES said at 4.15pm on Sun­day Bowen fire crews and wa­ter po­lice were on site.
