WHAT’S HAPPENING ONLINE

Elderly abuse prompts royal commission

Maree Martin: Should have been one at least five years ago when laws and training was relaxed, and now the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has brought in the sharks. Too late. The horse has bolted. I left the industry as no one was listening and every time either government went cost saving, guess where they ripped the money from?

Leo Scott: I just spoke to someone this morning online who writes up NDIS applications for individuals and he said the system is a complete joke and a mess. People can’t feed themselves and are getting rejected because there is so many cracks, while others who can live independently get approved. He said its very emotional and he’s trying to get away from his job because it’s heart-breaking.

Steven Mccann: Mandatory carer to patient ratio. Mandatory independent facility reviews (are needed).

Julie Mackenzie: God bless you PM. Keep strong in your convictions to do the morally right thing while in power. Not one elderly person should be abused, not now, not ever, by anyone – including a slack, greedy government.

Brian Snufilufigus: This so-called government has demonstrated a total lack of focus when it comes to aged care. Around 50% of residential care is contracted out to overseas providers who use 457 Visas to staff them.

Steven Breadsell: We need a royal commission into all of the political parties.

Craig Andrews: Also need to make sure the health/aged care staff can speak English pretty well. It amazes me when go visit someone at aged care places and some of staff have trouble speaking back to you.

Premier’s bounty: $100k reward to catch strawberry saboteur

Alicia Fitzpatrick: I think it would have to be the pickers. Disgruntled ones at best! The growers should provide a list of pickers to the police and then let them work out who has worked where and when etcetera.

Donna Maree: They need to be caught now! Filth at its lowest!

Edelyn Jenkins: Oh how devastating for the poor farmers. All of their hard work and investment goes to waste. Whoever does it obviously hasn’t got the heart to see how much farmers are struggling from the drought.

Robbo Ozegovic: Gotta be backpackers, or some idiot who thinks it’s funny.
