FANS of Johnathan Thurston prepare yourselves – the NRL immortal in waiting is coming to Canelands.

As he continues his Australian-wide tour, An Evening with Johnathan Thurston, the legendary former North Queensland Cowboys halfback will stop off at Mackay QBD for a book signing of his autobiography today at noon.

With an army of passionate supporters always in tow, the free one-hour event is expected to see Mackay’s rugby league enthusiasts clamour to Canelands complex, restricting the event to a meet-andgreet signing and ensuring photo opportunities and other merchandise signings would not be possible.

The signing will mark a busy

day for the four-time Dally M Medal winner, with his stage talk taking place at 7pm this evening at the Mackay Entertainment and Cultural Centre.

His presence is sure to cause a stir among the enthusiastic rugby league fan-base in the community, given his proud listing as arguably the finest footballer to represent not only the North Queensland region, but the country’s sporting landscape.

The book delves into some of the great man’s finest and most harrowing moments throughout his life and career, including the tragic death of his uncle, Richard Saunders.

When the autobiography launched this October, Thurston said reliving the turmoil was the hardest part of the process.

“There’s a lot of things in there that I thought I’d never talk about,” Thurston said at the time.

“Being in the 2008 World Cup, the death of my uncle ... it’s very open and honest and that’s what I love about it,” he said.

For the chance to get your copy signed, get in quick as lines may be capped should the demand become too excessive.
