JEFF ODGERS NAMED DAIRY AUSTRALIA DEPUTY CHAIR

Shep­par­ton Dairy farmer Jeff Odgers has been named deputy chair of the Dairy Australia Board, paving the way for him to suc­ceed outgoing chair Ge­off Akers at the next AGM in Novem­ber. Mr Odgers was ap­pointed deputy chair on July 27. Mr Akers will re­tired from the board at the next AGM, hav­ing reached the max­i­mum ten­ure un­der the con­sti­tu­tion. He said the ap­point­ment would en­sure a "seam­less tran­si­tion" fol­low­ing his re­tire­ment. Mr Odgers owns a dairy farm­ing busi­ness near Shep­par­ton, Vic­to­ria, milk­ing 700 cows, and has broad ex­pe­ri­ence in man­ag­ing large scale farm en­ter­prises in north­ern Vic­to­ria and Tas­ma­nia. His for­mal qual­i­fi­ca­tions in­clude a Bach­e­lor of Busi­ness (Agri­cul­tural Man­age­ment) and an As­so­ciate Diploma in Farm Man­age­ment. He served as a Di­rec­tor of the Mur­ray Dairy Inc. Re­gional De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram (2006 — 12) and led the or­gan­i­sa­tion as Chair (2008 — 12). Mr Odgers was first elected to the Board in 2013. He served as a mem­ber of the Dairy Australia Board Hu­man Re­sources Com­mit­tee from Novem­ber 2013 to Novem­ber 2015, and be­came a mem­ber of the Au­dit and Risk Man­age­ment Com­mit­tee in De­cem­ber 2015. In ad­di­tion, Mr Odgers is a di­rec­tor of Bega Cheese Lim­ited and was also a Di­rec­tor of Tatura Milk In­dus­tries prior to the suc­cess­ful merger of the two com­pa­nies. Un­der the cur­rent Dairy Australia Con­sti­tu­tion, the Board has the dis­cre­tion to ap­point a Deputy Chair at any time.
