Easter comes early for bun fans

Dalby Herald - - NEWS -

LOVE them or hate them, hot cross buns are on shelves in Dalby and it’s barely January.

The baked goods found their way onto shelves in Coles on December 28, just three days after Christmas.

While word on the street suggests the arrival of the treat is a polarising one, sales at Coles prove the supply links closely to demand.

A Coles spokesman said the buns had already been popular with customers.

Coles category manager Freddie Hancock said this time last year was also a popular time for hot cross bun consumption.

“We sold millions of hot cross buns in January last year.”

Dalby Woolworths was contacted for comment and confirmed the Easter goodies had not yet arrived on shelves, but its shoppers would be able to find them soon in the new year.

Coles launched three new hot cross bun flavours this year and now offers sticky date and butterscotch, traditional fruit and salted caramel in addition to the flavours it stocked previously.
