How ap­pro­pri­ate was your No Waste chal­lenge on straw­ber­ries in the Oc­to­ber is­sue (p 29), given the hor­ren­dous time both farm­ers and some con­sumers have been hav­ing with straw­ber­ries fol­low­ing the tam­per­ing scan­dal. But be­fore I even clapped eyes on your great ar­ti­cle, I hot­footed it to my lo­cal Har­ris Farm Mar­kets and bought 10 pun­nets of the lovely red berries. De­ter­mined to do my bit to help, I made smooth­ies, coulis (for the freezer) and straw­berry-and-le­mon-driz­zle cake, and cut up morsels for lunch boxes. Yes I took ex­tra care, but it’s worth help­ing our great grow­ers, par­tic­u­larly in times of ab­so­lute
