Mur­ray Ir­ri­ga­tion Lim­ited mar­ket­ing ad­vi­sor Erica Laing is the 2018 Out­stand­ing Young Em­ployee, Trainee or Ap­pren­tice.

A new cat­e­gory in 2018, the award recog­nises an in­spi­ra­tional young em­ployee, trainee or ap­pren­tice aged be­tween 16 and 35 years.

Ms Laing started at MIL in 2016, bring­ing mar­ket­ing ex­pe­ri­ence to the role, hav­ing pre­vi­ously worked with the Deni Ute Muster as its mar­ket­ing co­or­di­na­tor.

Dur­ing her time at the Ute Muster of­fice she also man­aged to com­plete a Bach­e­lor of Busi­ness (Mar­ket­ing), bal­anc­ing her full time po­si­tion with her stud­ies.

In the nom­i­na­tion form, it out­lined Ms Laing’s pri­mary roles and her achieve­ments in the past 18 months.

‘‘As a young em­ployee Erica has the en­ergy and en­thu­si­asm to try new things and is al­ways striv­ing to im­prove cur­rent prac­tices. She has high lev­els of in­ter­per­sonal skills which help her com­mu­ni­cate ef­fec­tively with a broad range of peo­ple. This skill as­sists her abil­ity to lead and mo­ti­vate col­leagues as well.

‘‘In 2017 Erica be­came project lead on a ma­jor project for Mur­ray Ir­ri­ga­tion — its web­site up­grade. This in­volved work­ing with a group of six project par­tic­i­pants over a 12-month pe­riod.’’

In 2016, Ms Laing was awarded an AMDA re­gional mar­ket­ing schol­ar­ship which al­lowed her to com­plete a cer­tifi­cate in dig­i­tal mar­ket­ing.
