Promoter and date set for Fight Night

Deniliquin Pastoral Times - - LOCAL CLASSIES -

After having to postpone its ‘Fight Night’ twice, Golden Rivers RSL Boxing Club has a new date for its first event of the year.

Local boxers will showcase their talent at the Deniliquin RSL Club on Saturday, August 18.

Golden Rivers president Roy Lynn said he was excited to finally secure a date, with promoter Troy Richards signed for the event.

‘‘We had issues with booking a promoter and also having a representative from Combat Sports Australia available on the same date,’’ he said.

‘‘We were very lucky to have Troy help us out.

‘‘Troy will be our promoter for the August show, and also a show that we are holding in November.’’

Finding a promoter won’t be an issue for much longer for Golden Rivers, with vice president Travis Rochford set to earn his promoter’s certificate.

Lynn said Rochford will fill the role for all shows, starting next year.

‘‘Travis works extremely hard for the club and we can’t thank him enough for what he does,’’ he said.

‘‘For him to take on this role just shows the kind of hardworking person he is.

‘‘We are still looking for more referees and judges for our upcoming shows though.’’

Golden Rivers will again hold courses for those interested in becoming a qualified referee and/or judge.

If interested please contact Roy Lynn on 0400 343 758.

Golden Rivers Boxing Club recently welcomed two former members back with Edgar Day and Jamie East both returning to help train the boxers.

Lynn said he was excited to have both Day and East back at the club.

‘‘Edgar used to help out a while ago and has a lot of experience,’’ he said.

‘‘He really wanted to help out again so we were quite happy to have him back.

‘‘I trained Jamie (East) about 20 years ago and he wanted to give back to the club and help us out where he can.

‘‘They will both be in here to help with training every Tuesday night.’’
