Tennis season starting soon

-

Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club will kickoff the new season with a switching on the new lights at 6pm on Friday, October 12.

The evening will see a mixture of casual tennis for all, pulled beef sliders and the ritual switching on of the lights when the sun goes down.

All members and past members and anyone who wants to play tennis this season is invited.

The six light towers, which were erected in February, illuminate four of the courts.

The club had been looking to introduce lights back in the mid 1990s.

The committee addressed the issue of being able to play mid-week competitions with lights as a back-up to get all matches completed and with club finances in good condition and a grant from Edward River Council, planning and construction started.

The club invites councillors and the contractors TA Maher to the evening.

Two competitions will start in the week after the opening.

A mid-week teams comp will run each Wednesday, starting on October 17 at 6 pm, finishing up before Christmas.

The Saturday afternoon comp will begin on Saturday, October 20, running through to Easter next year.

Those who want to attend the season opening should contact Lourene on 0428 281 060 or Clive on 0408 489 490.
