At the end of last term, the Year 9 girls par­tic­i­pated in an em­pow­er­ment day. The aim of the day was to not only em­power the girls but to teach them some new skills, en­cour­age team work and unity, while also hav­ing a lot of fun.

The day started with a past stu­dent Lucy Howard (nee Bee­hag) shar­ing

girls. We are so lucky to live in a town where we have com­mu­nity mem­bers will­ing to give up their time to en­rich days like this!

Af­ter some yummy morn­ing tea we then had a few hours of fun, smiles and laugh­ter with the SheKan girls. Shez and Kell are fab­u­lous. The girls learnt about per­son­al­ity types and deal­ing with oth­ers while par­tic­i­pat­ing in a team chal­lenge. They also en­light­ened us with an ac­tiv­ity that em­pha­sized how we per­ceive our­selves and how oth­ers per­ceive us.

The af­ter­noon started with a chal­lenge to de­sign a wed­ding dress out of news­pa­pers. The cre­ativ­ity was amaz­ing, and the win­ning de­sign will look

Last, but not least, Ge­or­gia Van Lieshout a past DHS school cap­tain who is now study­ing di­etet­ics at univer­sity spoke to us about a healthy bal­anced life­style and we got to get our hands dirty mak­ing bliss balls – a healthy snack that we can now make when we need one.
