Speed shear for can­cer

Can­cer Re­search and sup­port for lo­cals af­fected by the dis­ease will be the big win­ners when Mathoura’s Speed Shear is held next month.

The venue for the third an­nual event is to be held on Satur­day at the Mathoura Recre­ation Re­serve.

The event gath­ers shear­ers from all over com­pet­ing in four shear­ing cat­e­gories with a com­bined to­tal of prize money reach­ing $12,000, along with the chain­saw com­pe­ti­tion for both sin­gle and team events.

Reg­is­ter for both events at 9.30am for chain­saw com­pe­ti­tion, start­ing at 11am, and 1pm for shear­ing com­pe­ti­tions.

As well as all the shear­ing ac­tion there will be food, re­fresh­ments and other en­ter­tain­ment in­clud­ing nov­elty events – the con­trac­tors re­lay and the Trans-tas­man be­tween Aus­tralia and New Zealand.

There’ll be no short­age of ac­tiv­i­ties for kids on the day, with ma­jor spon­sor Bendigo Bank mon­i­tor­ing a hand­ball com­pe­ti­tion, along with a jump­ing cas­tle, pop­corn and fairy floss, and many mar­ket stalls for the fam­ily to en­joy.

As a part of the char­ity event they will be hold­ing an auc­tion and raf­fle with prizes kindly do­nated by lo­cal busi­nesses.

Corey Tay­lor will also have his head shaved in sup­port of the great fundrais­ing cause.
