Division One pipped by Moama
Deniliquin Bowling Club’s Division One Midweek Pennant side had a close game against Moama in round eight of the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division going down by four shots on Friday.
With one rink finished and two on the green, a total of four ends were left to be played.
Deniliquin had a lead of two shots but all four ends went Moama’s way giving victory to the visitors 82 to 78.
Jill Grimshaw’s team of Fay Munnerley, Brenda Leetham and Winnie Pattinson led the way with excellent bowling by all four players on their home greens.
Pattinson had a day to remember and was ably followed by the rest of the team.
With a ‘seven’ on the third end and winning 16 of the 25 ends the final result was an impressive 23 shots win to Deniliquin.
Final score, Deni 41 to Moama 18.
Linda Harris (s) teaming with Joy McArthur, Lyn Smith and Maxine Norton were out bowled by their Moama opposition and were only able to score one shot by the 15th end.
The Deni quartet rallied in the final stages to bring the margin back to 24 shots at the end of the match.
Final score, Moama 39 to Deni 15.
Joanne Bovell (s), Jenny Tonta, Dawn McCulloch and Toni Brooksby had a close game throughout with the lead changing many times.
With no more than two shots separating the teams at any stage and Deniliquin being two shots up with two ends to go losses of a ‘three’ and ‘two’ gave victory to Moama by three.
Final score, Moama 25 to Deni 22.
Despite the overall loss, Deni remain in third spot on the ladder with five wins and three losses.
Division Two played Rochester at home for round seven of their season, with the visitors recording a 20 shot win, 80 to 60.
Robyn Little (s), Barbara Berry, Lindsay Franklin and Lorraine Tasker were the only winners for the home side.
Although trailing for the first half the locals took the lead with a ‘three’ on the 17th end.
The home side scored on nine of the last 11 ends to finish four shots in front when play ended.
Final score, Deni 22 to Rochester 18.
Maureen King (s), Cheryl Bradley, Aileen Kennedy and Loris Yates were 12 down at the sixth end but with multiple shots scored on the following three ends, managed to close the gap to two.
With ends being shared from that point the early losses were hard to cover, with Deni falling to Rochester by five shots.
Final score, Rochester 28 to Deni 23.
Caryn Hillier(s), Helen Anderson , Tony Danckert and Rosie Jukes started the day well and led until the 12th end before Rochester took over.
The visitors only allowed Deni to score one more shot over the final 10 ends carding a 19 shot loss for Deni.
Final score, Rochester 35 to Deni 15.
Deni are just one win out of the top four, sitting fifth with three wins and four losses.
