Car destroyed by fire

Deniliquin Pastoral Times - - NEWS -

Police are investigating whether a burnt car found off the Colligen Creek Rd near Deniliquin is the car reported stolen from Deniliquin last week.

The burnt car was discovered on Monday by a passing motorist, who specified the fire was no longer active, and was reported again the following day when he saw it was still there. The number plates were missing. Police suspect it is a Mitsubishi Magna reported stolen from an east Deniliquin home on November 29, but are yet to formally make the link.

The missing Magna was taken from the driveway between 8.30am and 8.40am and police said the keys may have been taken from inside the home.

Drugs charge

A 43 year-old Deniliquin man has been charged with resisting police and possession of a prohibited drug after being stopped by police in west Deniliquin last Friday night. Police said they saw the man, who they say is ‘‘known to police’’, walking in Decimus St about 8.30pm and stopped to speak with him. After showing some resistance to police, officers advised the man he would be searched and say it prompted stronger resistance which threatened to turn violent. The man was eventually handcuffed and police allegedly found a syringe and spoon after a quick search of the man. In a more thorough search at Deniliquin Police Station, police said they found a small bag containing what they believe to be methamphetamines in the man’s pants.
