Wearing her heart on her . . . number plate

Deniliquin Pastoral Times - - NEWS -

Mary Knight’s first visit to Deniliquin was to see her aunty and uncle Barbara and Doug Blease many years ago.

She said it did not take long for her to ‘‘fall in love’’ with the town.

Today, thanks to her family, Mary shows her love all year round with her Victorian registered ‘I love Deni’ number plates.

They were a gift from her husband Doug on Mother’s Day last year.

Mary said the plates mean she’s noticed everywhere she goes.

‘‘I used to come and visit my aunty and uncle on their dairy farm and I fell in love with Deni,’’ Mary said.

‘‘I then decided I would buy a farm here, and my husband Doug eventually agreed.

‘‘We have a farm on Finley Road, ‘Stansfield’, where we run a few sheep and do some cropping when there’s water.

‘‘We normally grow lucerne and what, and during the last drought we had sorghum and oats.

‘‘We’ve been here 15 years now and spend at least 90 per cent of our time here.’’

The Blease family farm is still running too, with Stuart and Jenny Blease steering the rudder these days.
