RCH support echoed by RSL chair

Deniliquin Pastoral Times - - NEWS -

Dear Editor, I have just read, with interest, Phoebe Jefferies’ story in the Pastoral Times edition, Friday December 28, 2018.

Similar to Andrew and Donna Jefferies, my wife Allison and I had a similar situation in June 2017 when our granddaughter Milli Pevitt fell and sustained a severe head injury, resulting in emergency skull surgery at the Albury Base Hospital to relieve the pressure on her brain due to internal bleeding.

Immediately following that procedure, she was conveyed to the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) by ambulance then also by helicopter ambulance, where she received immediate intensive care.

Seeing the photo in the PT (page 7, Dec 28, 2018) of Phoebe brought back sad times to Allison and I of our previous photos of Milli in the same situation as Phoebe.

I just want to support Andrew’s comments, (‘‘The work that the Royal Children’s Hospital did as well was just unreal. I honestly can’t believe we only have the one big fundraiser each year for the RCH. The Government should be throwing money at it all year round for what they do.’’).

The major fundraiser for Deniliquin for the RCH is the Good Friday appeal.

This has only been possible over the past (many) years through the efforts of Sonia Rapley and her many volunteers who selflessly support and devote their time and efforts to such a great cause.

Our Deni RSL Club grants program also supports this very worthy cause.

In the past, many Deniliquin children have needed the services of the RCH and the RCH have always been there for them.

Deni RSL fully supports this cause and encourages all locals to also support this great facility that we have in this country.

Each Easter, please support Sonia and her team who sell many raffle tickets throughout the town and at the Deni RSL.

Also within the Deni RSL, at the cash box, there is a Ronald McDonald House moneybox where members and guests can place their small change.

These donations go to supporting families for accommodation at Ronald McDonald House, who have loved ones receiving treatment in the RCH.

Thank God we have such wonderful facilities as the RCH and Ronald McDonald House.
