Massive field for Premier League opener

Round one of the inaugural Deniliquin Golf Club Premier League was a great success with 103 of the 128 register players participating on Saturday.

The first week has whet the appetite for the competition ahead with two matches decided by one point and three decided by three points.

While Wedgies had a convincing first up win and sit on top of the Steam Plains conference, the team score of 127 was in the bottom half of all team scores for round one.

The Bush Whackers, Merinos and Wedgies, who we thought might struggle, all came away with first up wins.

The Pennant Team also recorded a narrow win against a strongly performed Local Knowledge.

The Pennant Team looked resplendent in their sky blue coloured team uniform. It was just a pity George Willis didn’t see the message and wore yellow.

The PASTORAL TIMES wonders if there is a team fine for being out of uniform?

The Bush Whackers and Hit & Hope both had just four players each this week, and The Old Boys might be kicking themselves having had only five players going around and losing by a solitary point.

In the Noorumboon conference, Jordan Treble’s 40 points led the Jackson 8 to an upset victory over the fancied Eagles & Birdies.

Billy Bourke’s 40 points led the Twos to a convincing win over Da Cluster and top spot on the ladder after the first round, giving them bragging rights for this week over the Ones, who also had a good win over the TaylorMaids.

Angus McKinnon’s 38 points proved the difference between COVID-8 and Golf Mates.
