Third term costly for Roos

A third quar­ter fade out proved costly for the Deni Rovers thirds against an un­de­feated Ber­ri­gan in Pi­cola & District League ac­tion on Satur­day.

The Roos stuck with the Saints un­til half time, trail­ing by just five points at the main break of the round six clash.

Ber­ri­gan put the foot down af­ter the break how­ever, kick­ing 4.5 to Deni’s 1.0 to take a com­mand­ing 28 point lead into the last.

The Rovers con­tin­ued to bat­tle strongly in the fi­nal stanza, man­ag­ing to outscore the Saints.

The dam­age was done how­ever, Ber­ri­gan record­ing a 23 point win.

Fi­nal score, Ber­ri­gan 10.13 (73) Rovers 8.2 (50).

On­baller Ray­mond Mur­phy was Deni’s best with the usual sus­pects — Alvin Cooper, Haydn Mowat, Tom Blake, Khy Stovell and Tom Banks — also among the bet­ter play­ers.

Stovell had yet an­other out­stand­ing show­ing in front of goal, slot­ting four ma­jors to bring his sea­son tally to 24 af­ter six rounds.

His clos­est ri­val in the goal­kick­ing was Deni Rams player Darcy McManus, who also man­aged four on the day to fin­ish the year with 15 goals from his five games with the Saints.

In the fourths game, the Roos held off the Saints in a 13 point win to fin­ish the sea­son un­de­feated.

It was a tale of two halves with the Rovers jump­ing to a 21 point lead at the main break.

Ber­ri­gan tight­ened things up in de­fence in the sec­ond half, keep­ing the Roos score­less for the re­main­der of the game.

Scor­ing was hard to come by for both sides how­ever, with the Saints only able to add 1.2 for the half.

Bet­ter play­ers for the Rovers were Cam Wills, Tyson Wil­lis, Liam East, Bobby Hall, Bryce Lea and Jemika Cooper.

For the Saints it was Mar­cus Moorse, Lo­gan Leiper, Xavier Fox, Luke Todd, Charl­ton Bax­ter and Far­ron Ur­ru­tia who starred.

The semi fi­nals will be played in Ber­ri­gan this week­end.

The Rovers will face Ber­ri­gan will meet Blighty.

The win­ners of these clashes will move on to the grand fi­nal.
