Sea­son ‘draws’ to an end

Blighty’s net­ballers took to the court for the fi­nal round of the Pi­cola & District League home and away sea­son at Jer­ilderie on Satur­day.

The round six fix­ture pro­vided some ab­so­lute thrillers be­tween the Redeyes and Demons.

The Un­der 17s clash saw both teams share the pre­mier­ship points, with a high scor­ing af­fair end­ing in a draw.

All girls played a good game and should be proud of their ef­forts.

The Redeyes shoot­ers did well mov­ing around, and had their eye in the ring.

Blighty’s de­fence was strong, stick­ing close to their play­ers, and the mid­court was out­stand­ing in bring­ing the ball down to the ring with amaz­ing in­ter­cepts and turnovers. Fi­nal score, Blighty 53 to Jer­ilderie 43. Blighty awards: Holly Amor, Gabby Clarke and Is­abella McIl­wain.

The Un­der 15s clash was an amaz­ing game to watch and was nail bit­ing un­til the end.

It was a strong fin­ish by the Redeyes in the sec­ond half, steer­ing them to a 14 goal win in splen­did play­ing con­di­tions.

Every po­si­tion change was well re­ceived by all Blighty play­ers, who hit the court hard and gave it their all to come home with the win.

Fi­nal score, Blighty 37 to Jer­ilderie 23. Blighty awards: Sarah Han­mer, El­iza Brad­ford, Melina Tid­combe and Ste­vie Bate­man.

It was a low-scor­ing slog in the Un­der 13s, with Jer­ilderie scor­ing a seven goal win.

In an oth­er­wise ex­cel­lent game, it was Blighty’s pass­ing that let them down.

Ash­lea Charl­ton, Gemma Macdon­ald and Chelsea Sin­gle­ton com­bined well again and backed each other up.

Dakota McKen­zie con­trolled the mid­court and rarely made a mis­take.

While the loss was tough, each week has seen a sub­stan­tial im­prove­ment in Blighty’s court aware­ness.

The Un­der 11s played their fi­nal game of the year on Satur­day.

There was strong shoot­ing by Cas­sady Si­braa and Kyah Wat­son, paired with strong de­fence by Milly Han­mer.

Catie Michael pro­vided a run of goals for Blighty in the last quar­ter.

All of the young Redeyes have shown im­prove­ments each game this sea­son with the club look­ing for­ward to see­ing them hit the courts next year.
