Season ‘draws’ to an end
Blighty’s netballers took to the court for the final round of the Picola & District League home and away season at Jerilderie on Saturday.
The round six fixture provided some absolute thrillers between the Redeyes and Demons.
The Under 17s clash saw both teams share the premiership points, with a high scoring affair ending in a draw.
All girls played a good game and should be proud of their efforts.
The Redeyes shooters did well moving around, and had their eye in the ring.
Blighty’s defence was strong, sticking close to their players, and the midcourt was outstanding in bringing the ball down to the ring with amazing intercepts and turnovers. Final score, Blighty 53 to Jerilderie 43. Blighty awards: Holly Amor, Gabby Clarke and Isabella McIlwain.
The Under 15s clash was an amazing game to watch and was nail biting until the end.
It was a strong finish by the Redeyes in the second half, steering them to a 14 goal win in splendid playing conditions.
Every position change was well received by all Blighty players, who hit the court hard and gave it their all to come home with the win.
Final score, Blighty 37 to Jerilderie 23. Blighty awards: Sarah Hanmer, Eliza Bradford, Melina Tidcombe and Stevie Bateman.
It was a low-scoring slog in the Under 13s, with Jerilderie scoring a seven goal win.
In an otherwise excellent game, it was Blighty’s passing that let them down.
Ashlea Charlton, Gemma Macdonald and Chelsea Singleton combined well again and backed each other up.
Dakota McKenzie controlled the midcourt and rarely made a mistake.
While the loss was tough, each week has seen a substantial improvement in Blighty’s court awareness.

The Under 11s played their final game of the year on Saturday.
There was strong shooting by Cassady Sibraa and Kyah Watson, paired with strong defence by Milly Hanmer.
Catie Michael provided a run of goals for Blighty in the last quarter.
All of the young Redeyes have shown improvements each game this season with the club looking forward to seeing them hit the courts next year.
