Nom­i­na­tions for Mur­ray River Coun­cil’s 2021 Aus­tralia Day Awards are now open.

Res­i­dents and com­mu­nity mem­bers are en­cour­aged to nom­i­nate in­di­vid­u­als or groups who have made an out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to the lo­cal com­mu­nity.

‘‘Aus­tralia Day pro­vides a won­der­ful op­por­tu­nity to ac­knowl­edge those in­di­vid­u­als who vol­un­teer so much of their time to en­sure com­mu­nity ser­vices, ini­tia­tives and other im­por­tant ac­tiv­i­ties con­tinue to pros­per across our coun­cil area - par­tic­u­larly dur­ing these times,’’ Mayor Chris Bilkey said.

‘‘It’s also a great plat­form to recog­nise in­di­vid­u­als and groups who have made achieve­ments in a range of pur­suits in­clud­ing sports and the arts.’’

Nom­i­na­tions are cur­rently be­ing ac­cepted in the fol­low­ing award cat­e­gories:

● Cit­i­zen of the Year;

● Young Cit­i­zen of the Year;

● Sportsper­son of the Year;

● Young Sportsper­son of the Year;

● Com­mu­nity Event of the Year;

● Com­mu­nity Group of the Year;

● Arts/Cul­tural Award (per­son or group).

Nom­i­na­tions can be com­pleted via coun­cil’s Your Say plat­form, www.your­say.mur­rayriver.nsw.gov.au, and close on Novem­ber 6.

‘‘Don’t be shy, if there is some­one in your com­mu­nity or group that de­serves a nom­i­na­tion, I en­cour­age you to nom­i­nate them to­day,’’ Cr Bilkey said.

The awards will be pre­sented on Aus­tralia Day, Jan­uary 26, 2021.
