Money taken in scam

-

A ‘‘significant amount’’ of money has been removed from a Deniliquin bank account in a suspected scam.

A Deniliquin man told police several unauthorised account transactions had been processed between April 29 and May 10.

It is believed to have stemmed from a call from someone claiming to be from Amazon on April 29.

The man was initially told he was overcharged for a subscription, and asked to provide bank account details for a refund.

The person called back and reported they had put too much money in to his account, and asked for remote access to his computer to rectify the situation.

The man allowed the caller access. Deniliquin Police Snr Const Peter Joice said regardless of how legitimate a caller or email may seem, you should never provide back account details to anyone you do not know.

And he said you should never provide remote access to your computer to anyone.

Sensor alert

A 38 year-old Albury man has been fined for trespassing after allegedly being found at the side of a Deniliquin home on Wednesday night.

Police were waved down by a woman while driving through central Deniliquin about 9.30pm, who pointed out the man who was still nearby.

The woman said she was alerted to his presence by a sensor light.

Drugs charge

An 18 year-old local woman has been charged with possession of a prohibited drug after initially being stopped because of a missing side car window.

Police said a car was stopped about 10.20pm on Tuesday due to the ‘‘obvious defect’’.

On being advised the car would be searched, the female driver reportedly told police there were ice pipes in the glove box. She then allegedly surrendered a small amount of the drug ice she had ‘‘on her person’’.

The driver was subjected to roadside alcohol and drug testing, with police claiming the drug test was positive. Following a second positive drug indication at Deniliquin Police Station the woman’s licence was suspended for 24 hours.

Laboratory testing of the woman’s samples will determine if there are to be further charges.

Car damaged

A car parked at a Saleyards Rd, Deniliquin industrial yard was damaged over the weekend.

AVO breaches

A 41 year-old Deniliquin man has been charged with breaching two separate apprehended violence orders, and with intimidation.

Police allege the man approached both his former partner and his parents’ home on Monday, contrary to the conditions of his AVOs.

At 1.20pm the man is alleged to have sounded his car horn outside his parents’ Deniliquin home.

The couple and other people looked outside and claim to have seen the man’s car, with him in the driver’s seat, driving past slowly.

Police said his AVO states he is not be within 500m of his parents or their home.

At 4.55pm on Monday, the man’s former partner alleges she exited a local supermarket to find the man’s car stopped in front of hers.

She told police he was not impeded by traffic at the time. On seeing her he allegedly drove in her direction and tooted his horn at her.

Police said the woman also presented notations of other times the man had allegedly driven past her and made rude gestures.

The man was arrested about 2.50pm Wednesday, and released on conditional bail pending a July court appearance.
