DHS is ‘doing it for Dolly’

-

A sea of blue and Akubra hats will fill the grounds at Deniliquin High School today, as the school marks a special ‘Do It For Dolly Day’ event.

The aim is to bring the community together and celebrate kindness, and take a stand against bullying.

It is an initiative of the Dolly’s Dream organisation, founded by Tick and Kate Everett following the suicide death of their daughter Amy ‘Dolly’ Everett in the Northern Territory on January 3, 2018. It is now held annually on May 14.

The day will begin with

the Deni High

Student Representative Council providing a pancake breakfast.

Teacher Sue Laing said students are asked to wear blue and/or an Akubra — both of which honour Dolly’s favourite things — and there will be rainbow cut-outs and blue butterflies to decorate.

‘‘There will also be music in the quad,’’ she said.

‘‘The aim of day is to spread awareness of being kind to the people around us.

‘‘Students have also been creating a kindness calendar, which sees them do a kind activity each day.’’
